Cabo Frio's 7.5 km town beach faces SE and works with E to SE swells, with S swell wrapping in on bigger days. Peaks break along the whole sand, best around low tide with NW to N wind; the summer NE wind blows side-on. A statue of local pro Victor Ribas marks the middle of the beach. Beginners do best at the calmer north end by the São Mateus fort on small days.
