A low reef below the grassy park at 15th Street is the only reef between La Jolla and Cardiff, and it throws a lined-up left and a shorter right when the sandbars close out. It gets steeper as the tide drops, and kelp keeps it cleaner than the open beach in light wind. Beginners do better on the sand peaks from 17th to 25th Street on small days, inside the flagged surf zones.
