Sandbars on the beach north of the 576 ft Morro Rock face due west and take every swell, and they usually close out above about 2 m. A mushy left peels off the rock itself; the waves get bigger and stronger the farther north you walk. Park at Coleman Park and expect a competitive pack near the rock. Surfline notes a fatal white shark attack on a bodyboarder in 2021.
