Gneiss reefs partly close the mouth of this small east-facing bay. They take most of the Southern Ocean swell before it reaches the sand, and the surf breaks out on them, with the right as the main wave. It needs a solid south-west groundswell to wrap in and a north to north-north-west wind, which makes it a winter spot. Few people surf here. Boats come and go along the channel marked by the two leads, so keep out of it. Rocks, rips and sharks are the hazards.
