Village beach on the south side of the Cabo de Santo Agostinho headland, with peaks over sand and uneven reef. South-east swell and a west wind make it work on any tide, up to about 2.5 m. Gaibu lies south of the stretch where Pernambuco bans surfing for shark risk (Olinda to Itapoama), so surfing is allowed, though sharks have been seen here. Beginners should keep to the sandy middle on small days.
