Camboinhas faces southwest inside the Itaipu bay, where the Pai, Mãe and Menina islands soften S and SE swells, so it wakes up on SW groundswell with a NE breeze. Sandbars give short peaks both ways at most tides, up to about 3 m. At the east end the Itaipu canal jetty makes a soft, very crowded wave on big days. Beginners: pick a small day mid-beach, away from the jetty rocks.
