Guaratuba's surf beach sits just south of Morro do Cristo and picks up east and southeast swell, best with a west wind on the lower half of the tide. It usually stays under 1 m; a good east swell with light west wind lifts it to 1 to 2 m and hollow, around a week a month. Across the hill, a sand-and-rock right peels down Praia Central on big swells. Learners should come on small days, away from the rocks.
