Atalaia is a left that peels along the south jetty of the Itajaí river mouth and only breaks on a south to southeast swell, best with a west or southwest wind. On those days it is hollow and long, 300 m or more, and holds up to about 3 m. Wannasurf calls the localism among the heaviest in Brazil, with visiting surfers chased off by people waiting on the sand, so visitors should watch first and expect few waves.
