An estuary and river mouth shape the sandbar at Tilapa, near the Mexican border, with peaks both ways on small to medium SW swell. The coast is wide open and blows out quickly, so the early NE offshore window is the one to catch. The outgoing tide drains the estuary and pulls a rip off the beach. Beginners should stay in the inside whitewater on a rising tide, well away from the channel.
