Sandbars either side of the 1,000-foot concrete pier opened in 2011 in South Nags Head, steadier than the rest of the northern Outer Banks after each beach fill. Works on NE or SE swell with a SW to W wind, lower tide usually best. Hosts the WRV Outer Banks Pro around Labor Day and the ESA Easterns each September.
