The south end of the South Bay sand, below the Palos Verdes bluffs, picks up W and NW swells in winter and is partly sheltered from a S wind. Peaks are mellow on small days and draw fewer people than Redondo or Manhattan Beach. The big lot at the south end has a paved path down; beginners should stay near a lifeguard tower and watch for rips between the bars.
