Surfline reckons more people learn to surf at Otter Rock than anywhere else in Oregon: mushy beachbreak peaks below Devil's Punch Bowl State Park, partly sheltered from summer NW winds by Cape Foulweather. A small W swell is best; summer S swells also reach it. Learners should stay mid-beach away from the rocks, where winter rips run, and come early on sunny weekends because the lot fills.
