Miles of open sand in town are only rideable when the swell is small and the wind light or easterly, which in practice means summer and early autumn. Sandbars can get hollow, and the beach off NW 15th Street has a rock shelf. Wannasurf warns that the rip is a killer, so spot the channel from the sand before paddling out. Surfline lists white shark bites at Gleneden Beach to the south and Neskowin to the north.
