Slow, rolling waves break both ways over shallow reef and sand in front of Cove Park, at the south end of Kalama Park, and surf schools fill it most mornings. Summer S and SW swells are the season; big SW days turn it into a real wave. Wear booties for the urchins, start on the inside peaks, and note the nearest lifeguard stand is one beach south.
