On the mountain-backed east shore of False Bay, Kogel Bay is a long run of beach peaks that catch southwest swell when much of the bay is small. East to southeast wind blows offshore. Caves, the right next to the rocks and sea cave, is short, hollow and heavy; the main beach peaks are more forgiving. Beginners should only paddle out on small days and keep out of the rip channels.
