Flying with a surfboard on JetBlue
Counts as a checked bag · 1 board per bag.
Booking: Present it at least 60 minutes before departure
- one surfboard in a single-board case counts as one bag of the included allowance; beyond it, standard excess baggage charges
- not accepted to or from Bermuda, Santo Domingo, Santiago (Dominican Republic), Haiti, Peru or Trinidad and Tobago
- may ask you to sign a limited liability release
- secondary guides disagree on any extra surfboard fee ($50 to $100 each way); the Contract of Carriage (June 2026) names none
- a 2025 news report described a traveller made to leave a board behind under the one-board rule

What surfers say
- Refused (2026, JFK-GYE): An Ecuadorian surfer moved from a United booking onto JetBlue arrived with four boards and was held to JetBlue's one-board-per-bag rule; after about an hour of arguing he left one board in a bin at JFK. source
- Damaged (2016): A world champion surfer paid JetBlue around $500 in board fees and his boards still arrived damaged, a case Stab recalled in 2022 as a low point for surfers and airlines. source
