Off San Lorenzo beach on the north shore of Salinas, a reef named after a long-gone shipwreck splits into a left and a right; locals also call it Paco Illescas. North and NW swells from December to April wrap in, and here a south wind is offshore, the reverse of the peninsula's south coast. The rights need a higher tide. The shelf is shallow with urchins, and weekends are busy.
