Past the airport, a short park trail with set opening hours and a ranger counting visitors leads to this sea lion beach, where an A-frame breaks both ways over shallow lava. It works all year on S and SW swells from under 1 m and gets heavy and hollow past 2 m. Avoid dead low tide, wear booties for the rocky entry, and keep 2 m from the sea lions as the park requires: the bulls bite.
