Second Beach is a crescent of sand south-west of the Mzimvubu River mouth at Port St Johns, with beach peaks both ways in southeast to east swell and west-northwest wind. The waves are ordinary; the shark record is not. The Daily Dispatch counted eight fatal attacks here between 2007 and 2016, several on bathers in shallow water, and there are no nets. Not for learners, and never surf it alone.
