Laje de Itaipu is a rock slab at the east corner of Itaipu beach, under the Morro das Andorinhas. It needs a big S to SW swell of about 1.5 m or more, which comes only a few days a year, and then throws short, hollow waves off one peak in both directions, best at mid tide with a N to NE wind. Experts only: the slab is shallow and the rocks are close. On normal days Itaipu beach is sheltered and nearly flat.
