Cumbuco itself is a kite beach with a small shorebreak; its surf is at Pico das Almas, a sand-bottom peak reached by 4x4 along the beach past the hotel at the end of the Cumbuco road. It only breaks on a proper north or north-east swell of 1 m or more, mostly December to April, best at mid tide with a light south wind. Beginners are better off at the Icaraí or Taíba schools than out here.
