Sand peaks 20 km west of Fortaleza that work on north and north-east groundswell from December to April, from about 1 m up to well over 2 m, best at mid to high tide with the south-east trade side-offshore in the morning. Rock groynes built against erosion now split the beach and pull strong rips along their sides. Fortaleza surfers drive out here, so beginners should surf away from the groynes and the main pack.
