The long sand beach in front of Olón village, under 4 km north of Montañita, takes the same swells with far fewer surfers. Peaks move with the sandbars; locals rate the north swells of December to May highest, and early morning or the hour before sunset is cleanest. On a normal 1 to 1.5 m day the waves are rolling; learners can rent a board on the beach and stay in the white water.
