Ayampe village sits at a river mouth on the Manabí side of the border, about 30 minutes north of Montañita, with open sand facing west. Waves break fast and often close out; mornings before the sea breeze are far better, and NW swells with a higher tide give the most makeable peaks. Rips run hard here, so it suits surfers who handle quick, punchy take-offs. A free Surfline cam watches the beach.
