An outer bommie off the north end of Long Beach, Kommetjie, Sunset Reef wakes up only in big winter storms from the west and southwest, from about 3.5 m. It throws a barrelling right and a thick left, mostly towed by local jet-ski teams who need a launch permit, and still gets paddled on 9 to 10 ft guns on clean days. An inside wave called Washing Machines rarely gets good.
