Halfway down Noordhoek beach, below the big dunes that give it its name, sandbars throw heavy barrels both ways on medium to big west and southwest swells. Southeast wind is offshore, and mid to low tide works best. The walk in from the Noordhoek car park or from the Sunset Reef side is long, so crowds stay small, and the bank is shallow enough to snap boards.
