Under the basalt towers of Guarita State Park, waves break over rock and sand both ways on east swell, best with a west-northwest wind and more tide. Guarita held state and national contests until the mid-1980s; Wannasurf says a walkway built by the rocks later changed the bottom. Today it is short and ordinary most days. Intermediate surfers should stay clear of the rocks at the towers.
