Cassino's sand runs south from the Rio Grande jetties for hundreds of kilometres, and the surf near the town works on south to east swell with a west to north wind. Most days the waves are soft and fun, both ways, and it rarely gets good. After storms watch for mud in the water, and for streams that cross the beach. Beginners should surf near the town's lifeguard posts in summer, on small days.
