Gonubie Reef is a rare left on the East London coast, breaking off the rocks near the Gonubie River mouth and running far into the bay on bigger south to southeast swells. Northwest wind is offshore and it works at most tides; on small days rides finish in the river mouth, where ski-boats launch. Gonubie Point, a short hollow right, is a few hundred metres south. It is a rock reef, not a place to learn.
