Orange sandstone cliffs back 2.2 km of sand, and the only ways down are the steep stairs below the viewpoint or the path beside the Galé campsite. The cliffs are signposted for rockfall. Winter storms in 2025-26 lowered the beach by more than 4 m and made the emergency access unusable; Grândola planned repairs for May 2026, so check the stairs before carrying a board down. No surf guide describes the break itself. It is the same open sand as Aberta Nova, 3 km south: shifting peaks on a small to medium W to NW swell with an E wind, close-outs when it is big. Lifeguards from mid June to mid September.
