3.4 km of sand on the strip between the Atlantic and the Lagoa de Santo André, facing west-north-west, so it takes more of the NW swell than the beaches north of Melides. No surf guide covers it in detail; windsurfers describe good waves on the ocean side, but the summer N to NW wind blows onshore, so surf the morning or an E wind. Once a year, usually in March, a channel is dug to open the lagoon to the sea; keep away from the outflow while it runs. The road ends at car parks by the beach and the lagoon campsite. Melides is 2 km north. Lifeguards from mid June to mid September.
