A-frame peaks over sand, 50 to 150 m long on a normal day, that Wannasurf calls a regional classic when the swell is right. Go on a falling tide with a W to SW swell and an E to SE wind. Surf-Forecast rates it inconsistent and says few surfers turn up even on good days. The Ribeira das Fontainhas reaches the sea in the middle of the beach. The last part of the drive is a dirt road, then stairs and boardwalks lead down from the car park by the viewpoint. A Wannasurf reader describes surfers pulling three people out of a rip here, so read the channels before you paddle out. Lifeguards from mid June to mid September.
